A Beautiful Spring Day
by Billy Heatherington

I wrote this in 1989.  I hope at least some of you enjoy it. (Billy H.)

It was a gorgeous, crisp, crystal-clear, and sunny spring day.  Many different kinds of flowers were in full bloom, and how beautiful they were.  The trees were putting on new leaves and the grass was beginning to grow.  Everywhere I looked I saw the wonderful beauty that only God could create, and I thought to myself that my Heavenly Father is really showing off today.  All I could say was, “thank you Lord.”  As I observed the beauty of spring, my thoughts went back a few weeks when all the vegetation was seemingly dead and things looked dreary.  The plants, trees, and grass would have remained dead if God had not breathed new life into them.  He created beauty where only ugly had existed.  What a glorious day I had enjoyed, and I still remember it vividly because it has a much deeper meaning that applies to an eternal soul.

A person who has never accepted Christ as Savior is spiritually dead with no hope for eternal life.  When that person accepts Christ as personal Savior, He immediately forgives their sins and breathes new life into a seemingly dead soul, and that soul can become a beautiful human being who will spend eternity in Heaven with Christ.  Christ can also breathe new life into a Christian who has backslidden, or who has just lost their Christian enthusiasm.  We all need a little re-charging from time to time.  I am so thankful that God used this beautiful day as a teaching experience for me, and hopefully for you as you read about it.
