Gen 2:4-25
(4) These are
the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created,
in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
(Note 1: Def:
Generations =Heb: to-led-aw', to-led-aw'
From H3205; (plural
only) descent, that is, family; (figuratively) history:
- birth, generations.)
(Note 2: Def: Lord = yehôvâh = yeh-ho-vaw' From H1961; (the) self Existent
or eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: - Jehovah,
the Lord. & God = 'ĕlôhîym = el-o-heem' Plural of H433; gods in the
ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the
article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of
deference to magistrates)
Here we find that The Lord God was the one who created. We see that
Lord is referring to which part of the plural God, The Jehovah Part of God. He
created the beginning of all things, the history, descent or the birth of all
things. As duly stated in Genesis 1:1.
(5) And every plant of the field before
it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for
the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was
not a man to till the ground.
(Note:1 Take note to the terms “before it was in the earth” & “before it grew”. This reveals to us that God did not begin a growing Process in creation, but in fact He created things before they were able to grow. As we see in The Previous Chapter, He gave each thing He created the ability to reproduce)
(6) But there went up a mist from the
earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
This verse may seem out of place, but it is not. There is a strong relevance to this verse being here. When we reach Chapter six, and begin to discuss the Great Flood, you will certainly find its relevance! However, here it is also relevant, because it shows that God instilled in His creation the things necessary for its health and reproduction.
(7) And the LORD God formed man
of the dust of the ground, and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Here we see that God Formed Man!! Man is the only part of God’s creation that He “Formed”! All else was spoken into existence. God formed man, but didn’t stop there. God then breathed into man’s nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul! Man is the only part of creation that has a living soul! Our outward man was formed by the Master’s hand, while our inward man was breathed by God! We are a living soul!! The soul of man will always exist, but where the soul of man exists may vary. For now, the soul of man can be in one of three places, either it will be in man, in heaven, or in hell. There is coming a day when the soul of man will be limited to two possible places to spend eternity, Heaven or the Lake of fire! The determining factor of your souls destination will be based solely on whether you have trusted Christ for your Saviour, There is no other way! God is the only one who could breathe your soul into existence, and He is the only one who can keep your soul from damnation, through the only sufficient sacrifice, the Blood of Christ, and His resurrection power! AMEN!
(8) And the LORD God planted a garden
eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
(9) And out of the ground made the
LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of
good and evil.
Notice that nothing grew out of the ground in the garden, before man was placed in the garden. Man was the key to all that God created.
(10)
And
a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted,
and became into four heads.
(11)
The name of the first is Pison: that is
it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
(12)
And
the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
(13)
And
the name of the second river is Gihon:
the same is it that compasseth the whole
land of Ethiopia.
(14)
And
the name of the third river is Hiddekel:
that is it which goeth toward the east
of Assyria. And the fourth river is
Euphrates.
(15)
And
the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and
to keep it.
Here we see that man was placed in the garden to be responsible for dressing and keeping it. Not to be a lazy bum! Man was never intended to not work. The act of work was not the result of sin; the difficulties of work are the result of sin. We’ll see more about that in Chapter three.
(16)
And
the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest
freely eat:
(17)
But
of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in
the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Here we see that even
in a perfect environment there was a commandment or a law! We were made with
laws from the beginning. We will always have laws even until the end. lawless people were never god’s intention!
(18)
And
the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will
make him a help meet for him.
(19)
And
out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl
of the air; and brought them unto Adam
to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living
creature, that was the name thereof.
(20)
And
Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast
of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him.
Much confusion has erupted
over this verse, This is not saying that God made animals after He made man!
This is declaring that animal was made for man. Man was not an afterthought.
Remember that man was the key!
Illustration: When a locksmith builds (creates) a lock he already knows what key is going to make that lock work. He sets the tumblers and sets everything for that key. The lock cannot operate properly without the proper key. Man was that proper key!
(21)
And
the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took
one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
(22)
And
the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought
her unto the man.
God took Adams rib to make woman. One could speculate that this was done to show man that woman was not made to be under his feet, nor over his head, but by his side, and near his heart. She could not rule man because she came out of man. But she should not be treated like an animal, because God made he of man, not of animal.
(23)
And
Adam said, This is now bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of
Man.
(24)
Therefore
shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife:
and they shall be one flesh.
When a man grows up and marries he should run his own home. He should not let mommy and daddy run his home!! (nor in-laws or outlaws). The man and the woman are to be one flesh! Man should care for his wife as he cares for himself; she is his flesh.
(25)
And
they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Finally there should be
no backwardness, shyness or shame in a man and his wife being naked together.
Sin has caused that shame! We will see more on that in Chapter 3.
