Looking for info on Franklin PARKER who is listed in the 1860
census in Coffee Co. MY ggg gf had this name and he married my
gggm in Gibson Co in 1848. They were listed in the 1850 census in
Gibson Co but I lose him after that. She turns up in the Yell Co,
AR census in 1860 with her children but not him. I need to try to
see if the Franklin in the 1860 census might be my Franklin from the
1850 census. Any help is appreciated.

William is shown as a farmer in District 6 of Coffee Co. with his
wife Elizabeth,and 5 daughters and 2 sons: Nancy A. MARTIN, 13; John
H. MARTIN, 11; Ida E. MARTIN, 9; Mary E. MARTIN, 7; William F.

Does anyone know anything about Drury (Drewry) Martin born in 1816 in
SC/NC? His family moved to Bedford in 1817. His first wife evidently
died. In the 1850 census, his 3-year-old son William Martin was
living in Bedford County with Drury's father Elder William "Cedar
Billy" Martin and Drury's unmarried sister Martha "Patsy" Martin. By
1856, Drury had married Jane Wilson Martin. They had 7 children.
Little William was with Drury and Jane in the 1860 census. Later they
separated. Someone said he was married 3 times, but we do not know
that. It is not known that he ever pastored a church, but he
performed marriage ceremonies as a minister. The last we know of him
he was in Coffee County, TN, 1880 census living with his son William
Martin, and he was listed as divorced. Does anyone know what happed
to Drury and his son William or if William had any descendants?

Thanks for the help with my Oct. 14, 2002 query. You
may have helped me go back one more generation. I have some other
questions and hope you or another person can help.
1) What Southern Rutherford County town or district are Jerry ODLE
(age 46) and Mary FARMER (age 47) (1850 census) in? Your assessment
is great, and I'd like to research whether or not they are Mary A.
ODLE's parents.
[Answer: Fosterville, old Rutherford Co., CD 20]
2) Jasper M. Bates (b. 24 July 1825) died 7 May 1899. Mary A. ODLE
BATES (b. 19 Nov. 1825) died 18 March 1900. John A. BATES (b. abt.
1794 in VA) died in Coffee County TN in 1868. His wife Elizabeth
DAVIS BATES (b. abt. 1769 in SC) died in 1869. a) Does anyone know
which cemetery(ies) they might be buried in and who maintains the
plot map(s)?
3) What are the court houses for Coffee County, [Manchester]
Rutherford County, [Murfreesboro] and Bedford County? [Shelbyville] I'd like to write for copies
of records if I can.

John A. BATES (born ca. 1794 in VA) and
family and son Jasper M. Bates (b. 1825 in TN) and family are shown
in the 1850 6th Civil District, Coffee Co., TN federal census
living next to each other. John A. and Jasper M. are my
ggggrandfather and gggrandfather respectively. Another son of John A.
Bates - John N. Bates - was listed in the Fifth Civil District.
Question 1) What are the current town names of the 1850 5th and
6th Districts of Coffee Co., TN?
[Answer... Manchester in 6th Dist. only town, then & now.... J. Lewis]
Question 2) Does anyone know who the parents of Jasper M. Bates' wife
Mary A. ODLE were?
[Answer... Jasper & Mary were m. in Rutherford Co., on 11/18/1844. Only "ODLE" family in Rutherford or Coffee, in 1850, is Jerry Odle (age 46) and Mary Farmer(?) (age 47). They are in Southern Rutherford Co., and since "Odle" is not common in this area, they may be good candidates.... J. Lewis]
Question 3) Does anyone know which Samuel Bates was John A. Bates'
father? What I know about him is in an article about John N. Bates in
GOODSPEED BIOGRAPHIES AND MEMOIRS OF NORTHEASTERN ARKANSAS (1891?).

Cherokee roll. Her mother was Nancy Wilson, and her grandmother was
Susan Wilson, married to a James and John respectively. I don't know
their maiden names.
Of course, it is possible the Cherokee blood came from the father,
but more likely if a mother's maiden name should be Cherokee, of
course. Some of the further ancestors came from North Carolina.

While researching my Griswell/Grissell/etc. family, I found that Dr.
Moses T. Griswold of Lincoln/Bedford Co. had a son, J. T., who lived
in Coffee Co. in the late 1800/early 1900s. So when I looked at the
Coffee Co. GenWeb page, I then saw a notice of a Grizzle Cemetery. I
did find a George Grizzel in the 1840 Census, also. If anyone knows
anything about any of the above, please contact me.
Dr. Moses T. Griswold had several siblings, including a Dr. Wm. C.
who married a Cannon. Dr. Moses married a Conn. Both were Marthas.
The two above were brothers to my Joel Griswell of Henderson Co., TN.
Joel and M.T. were born in SC and Wm. C. was born in AL.

Looking for a lost PHILLIPS family who lived somewhere around
the Warren Co. area in about 1850-60. We believe my grandfather,
Andrew Phillips, was born in 1855 in or near Warren Co. We have
exhaused our efforts in Warren Co and decided to seek help in the
surrounding area. We know he had an older brother named John and an
older sister (name unknown). Andrew's father was killed in the civil
war and his mother moved the family to KY, where she later died (abt
1865) leaving Andrew an orphan. We do not know the names of either
of his parents.
On a marriage license in about 1892 Andrew did list
his mothers maiden name as COBB. Andrew told his family his father
was killed at Manasses. We have searched for years to locate this
family. Would appreciate hearing from any PHILLIPS or COBB
researchers how might have a clue about this family.
