Sometime about 1887 or 1888 he was murdered in

have happened and where. He may or may not have been the father of
the following children, depending on when he died: Ben, Daisy, Laura,

After the death of Ben, Bettie Bailey Davis married his brother Thomas Jefferson Davis but we have
not found a marriage date for them. [this occurred 4/28/1878, in Cannon Co.- J.Lewis]

I am researching the Ready family (James, Aaron, etc.) who lived early on in Cannon Co., Tn. I
am also searching the names of Carithers, which could also be
Gaithers, Willards, Campbells, Herrimans or Herrymans, Hadleys, and
others, all of who are related to the Readys of Cannon. I have some
census info. but it is not enough. I already know of a Charles
Ready, who owned a post office. I need more data on Readyville, and
on its cemeteries; some of the Readys may be buried there. I need to
know where they actually lived during the early 1800's. Did they own
smaller farms, or larger plantations; did they have slaves? I have a
feeling that all the Reads, Reeds, and Readys, how ever which way its
spelled, from Cannon, are related. Please write me on any data that

would dictate it occurred in Cannon Co., but I've been unable to
find it. The groom's name was Tom HEATHERLY, and the bride's first
name was Paralee -? . The area they lived in was called Burt, or Bert.
The only two counties Tom was known to have lived in were Cannon, and
Robertson, so perhaps it's in Robertson. Tom F. Heatherly, b.
September 07, 1877, son of George and Cynthia Heatherly of Cannon
Co. Tom died March 26, 1911, in Robertson County, and was buried there.
Mary Leola Heatherly, his daughter by Paralee was born September 01,
1898, and is listed on the 1900 or 1910 Census as living with her
'step grandfather' Sol WILLIAMS.
My grandfather put "Paralee Williams" as mother on my grandmother's

I am looking for info about any Tassey that lived in Cannon
County from 1836 through 1870 and beyond. I have a John TASSEY who
was in Warren County in 1820 and apparently had a son named John
TASSEY who married a Mary ?? from North Carolina. They had several
children of which some are: Alexander TASSEY who married Mary SUTTON
May 7, 1840 in Cannon County, Tennessee.
Some children were Bettia,Mary, Sutton and Edmon.
Alexander may have been married more than
once. His brother David S. TASSEY married Rosanah BOYD in Rutherford
County on January 9, 1844 and they has these children Robert B., John
W., and D.A.TASSEY. Another brother was J.W. TASSEY who married
Esther Angeline DANIEL Feb. 1, 1855 in Rutherford County. They had these
children William, Josephus, John, Narcissa, Jesse and James TASSEY.
Lastly, a sister Isabella N. TASSEY married Jasper N. BATEY in
Rutherford County on Nov. 5, 1851.
Some if not all are suspected to
have lived in Cannon County at one time or another or Rutherford County.

My ggrandfather Robert George SMITH lived from 1839 - 1929 variously
in Rutherford, Cannon, and Franklin Counties.
In his Civil War
memoirs he wrote:
"My grandmother on the maternal side [note: Susannah Lacy, married
Robert Price George] was living during the war and had eleven
grandsons to enlist. Only five of them lived through it. One, only,
was killed in battle, M. L. HOLLIS at Shiloh. James HOLLIS and Will
HOLLIS, John SMITH, my brother, and Andy DOAK died of sickness. Will
George was captured at Ft. Donalson and carried to a prison in
Illinois. He and a boy named Wilcher escaped and Wilcher got home
but Will George was never heard of again. This is a mystery that
could not be explailned. One HOLLIS, two COVINGTONS, one DOAK, and
myself lived through."
Can anyone help me figure out who his cousins were? His mother's
brothers and sisters were James O., Martha E., William F., John A.,
Emily T., Mariah, and Robert S. GEORGE.

We believe this John to be my husband's GGGgrandfather. We have a

In the Veterans census of 1890, both Thomas Estes and John
Estes indicated that they fought under the 5th Tennessee Cavalry(Union).
I know the census is notorious for mistakes, but his birthyear is in
question. In the 1860 census, John was 12, on his enlistment papers
of 1864, he said he was 18 (which makes him 14 in 1860) and his
tombstone says he was born in 1841 (which makes him 19 in 1860). Any help appreciated.

William Joel ANDERSON was born in Cannon Co., TN in December 1844 and
died 2/27/1919. His wife Amanda (PERRY) ANDERSON died on
12/28/1912. Both William and Amanda died in Summitville,
Coffee Co., TN. Two of their sons, Horace F. ANDERSON and Henry A.
ANDERSON, died young and are buried in the Summitville Methodist
Church graveyard, with tombstones but there are no markers for
William or Amanda ANDERSON. Does anyone know if they are also buried in this Cemetery,
or are they at some other location?
