Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!
The Letter Carrier Food Drive will be May 10, 2008. Glenn Webster is the NALC Coordinator for this year's event. Based on the turn out at the Food Bank meeting held on April 10th, this years event looks to be an improvement over last year. Management seems to be cooperating more this year.
FSA (Flexible Spending Account) Open season fiasco!
Well, did you do your FSA enrollment on time? If not, it's possible the USPS wasn't much help with timely information on the subject. Here's what my experience was with trying to enroll on what I thought was the last day for enrollment in FSA.
Last week I was looking on liteblue.usps.gov about FSA enrollment information. It was odd the all the information was dated for 2006, but I figured that must have left it that way for the entire year because everything but the year was the same. Maybe it was just a typo or oversight. Well, the only oversight was me thinking the USPS would put current and accurate information on the web site it directs it's own employees to use. The FSA information on "liteblue" stated that the last day for FSA enrollment would be December 31, 2006. Unfortunately, that end date wasn't the same for 2007. Since this information was not on "liteblue", I made a call to PostalEASE and found that in fact the last day for enrollment was December 29.
I then called FSA and they said they had gotten several calls from Postal employees trying to enroll too late due to faulty information. Undaunted, I called PostalEASE again and spoke to an actual person that could only suggest that I fax my request to "Benefits" at human resources. We'll see what happens I'll let you know what happens with that effort.
Guess what I got in the mail on December 31, 2007? It was a postcard from the USPS letting me know that open season for FSA enrollment ends on December 29, 2007! Just in time to get me enrolled two days late! Gee, thanks USPS, you guys are the best! So how long were those first class postcards just sitting around?
